Common Name: Green lacewing
Larvae are active predators of several pests including Helicoverpa eggs, aphids, thrips and mites. Adults are not predatory, feeding only on honeydew and nectar. Larvae have a pinkish-brown body, well developed legs and mouthparts, and are highly mobile. They are up to 8 mm long with a squat, tapered body covered in hairs. They camouflage themselves by placing their dead victims onto spines on their back. Adults are up to 20 mm long, pale to bright green in colour and lay whitish, oval-shaped stalked eggs. Adults have prominent eyes and large transparent ‘lacy’ wings, which are usually held upright over the abdomen.
