Scientific Name: Catadromus lacordaire
Common Name: Greenlined ground beetle
The greenlined ground beetle is a black shiny
beetle, approximately 30 - 35 mm in length and 11 mm wide. The adults have bright
golden-green margins along the length of the wing covers. The jaws are
prominent and serrated. Greenlined ground beetles are widely distributed in
southeastern Australia
and typically prefer native ground cover and a deep litter layer. They have a
characteristic flattened ‘hot-water-bottle’- shaped body and large bulging eyes
on the sides of the head. They eat a wide range of soft-bodied prey such as caterpillars,
aphids and earwigs.
