Scientific Name: Sminthurus viridis
Common Name: Lucerne flea
The lucerne flea is a major pest of winter grain crops in southern Australia. Adults are approximately 3 mm in size and are green to the naked eye, although their globular abdomens are a green-yellow colour that often has a mottled pattern of darker pigments. Damage to plants typically results in transparent patches that can result in complete skeletonisation of the leaf when severe infestations occur.
