Spotted vegetable weevil | Print |

Scientific Name: Desiantha diversipes
Common Name: Spotted vegetable weevil

The spotted vegetable weevil is endemic to Australia and found in all states and territories, except the Northern Territory. Larvae are white, legless grubs with orange-brown heads and grow to 8 mm in length. Adults are mottled grey-black weevils with grey flecks on the abdomen, and grow up to 7 mm long. Spotted vegetable weevil larvae attack cereal crops, feeding underground on the germinating seeds and stems, often killing plants or resulting in abnormal and stunted growth. Adults chew the cotyledons, leaves and stems of canola plants and may eat small plants down to ground level.
