Invertebrates (including insects and mites) provide a rich source of information that can be used to assess the health of an environment. In terrestrial systems invertebrates have been shown to react to certain contaminants, stressors, habitat types or habitat changes. These changes in invertebrate distributions (or abundances) will often happen prior to any measurable chemical or physical property. Invertebrate monitoring is therefore a powerful tool for governments, regulatory bodies, industries and land managers to embrace.
CESAR Consultants provides invertebrate indicators for a range of environmental disturbances in terrestrial environments and routinely provides monitoring frameworks to assess rehabilitation programs. We work closely with local governments and industry to develop key indicators that are utilized by land owners and land managers to assess a variety of environmental impacts, such as pesticides and dryland salinity. Our services are also designed to promote more environmentally sustainable practices in agricultural environments by integrating our monitoring programs directly with whole farm pest management systems.
